Stroke rehabilitation and Medicare

Encompass Health

Every 40 seconds, someone suffers a stroke in the U.S. HealthSouth, now Encompass Health, has a joint commission certification in stroke rehabilitation.

A 2016 study by the American Heart & Stroke Association stated that any stroke patient that qualifies for acute rehabilitation at an acute rehabilitation hospital should go to that setting, not a skilled nursing facility or nursing home.

About 2/3 of people who suffer stroke are over the age of 65 which means they are more than likely to have Medicare insurance. Medicare states you have a right to choose where you go to rehab after a stroke.

As a Medicare patient, if you want a higher level of care after your stroke, or any other accident, illness, or injury, insist on Encompass Health.
