BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — The California Highway Patrol and Caltrans announced all lanes of Highway 178 through the canyon have reopened after a rockslide earlier this week.

Traffic through Highway 178 reopened Wednesday night, according to a tweet by Caltrans District 6 on Wednesday night.

On Tuesday, CalTrans and CHP closed Highway 178 through the canyon because of large boulders in the roadway and major road damage.

A series of storms hit throughout the state earlier this week and caused major damage to homes and roadways.

A state of emergency was declared in California ahead of the storm and at least 18 people have died in the storms since late December, according to the Associated Press.
