The Las Vegas Raiders are coming off a close loss to the Miami Dolphins, and they will now take on their AFC West rivals, the Kansas City Chiefs, at Allegiant Stadium on Sunday.
This is the first time the Raiders will see the Chiefs this season, and they are hoping this game goes better for them than games in the past few seasons have. In the last five seasons, the Raiders have beaten the Chiefs just once.
The Chiefs currently hold the top seed in the AFC and take on the Philadelphia Eagles on Monday Night football tonight. The Raiders are looking to keep pace in the AFC playoff hunt and with the Chiefs in the division.
The Chiefs are led by Coach Andy Reid, one of the best coaches in the NFL. The two-time Super Bowl champion has turned Kansas City into a powerhouse year after year, creating a dynasty with quarterback Patrick Mahomes and this talented squad.
Reid has been coaching football for over 40 years but officially became a head coach in 1999 when he took over the Eagles. He spent 14 seasons there before taking over the Chiefs in 2013. Reid had a 130-93-1 record with the Eagles with six division titles, nine playoff appearances, and an appearance in Super Bowl XXXIX.
Since taking over in Kansas City, Reid has gone 124-47, won seven division titles, made the postseason nine times, and won two Super Bowls. His tenure in Kansas City has cemented his status as one of the best coaches in NFL history.
Reid has an 18-3 record against the Raiders since becoming head coach of the Chiefs, winning 10 of the last 11 games against the Silver and Black. Outside of 2020, the Raiders have not figured out a way to take down a Reid-coached team in a while.
Reid is an offensive-minded coach, running a unique scheme that works for Mahomes and his weapons highly efficiently. He has had several of his assistants become head coaches, including John Harbaugh of the Baltimore Ravens and Sean McDermott of the Buffalo Bills.
The Raiders have been playing good football under interim head coach Antonio Pierce, and they fought until the end against a talented Dolphins team. They now have another tough test against an elite Chiefs team with one of the best coaches in the business.
The Raiders must turn things around against Reid and the Chiefs to remain in the postseason hunt. Pierce faces his toughest test as a coach in Reid, who has been doing this for a long time. He must call up a great game plan to pull the upset.
The Silver and Black will return home next week to celebrate Thanksgiving and take on their AFC West Rival, the Kansas City Chiefs, on Sunday, November 26, at 4:25 p.m. EST/1:25 p.m. PST.
