Whiskey Flat Days begins Friday in Kernville

Take a trip back to the Wild West and experience the history of Kern County.

Whiskey Flat Days is happening in Kernville this weekend.

The annual events celebrates the town’s western heritage.

On Friday morning, 17’s Tabatha Mills and photojournalist Lee Ortlieb headed up Highway 178 to check out the setup as things get going.

They checked out a chuckwagon cookout and the camp setup as residents in the spirit of the weekend.

You can expect parades, rodeos, bounce houses and plenty of food and history this weekend.

62nd Annual Whiskey Flat Days

Friday, Feb. 15, 2019
11 a.m. – Whiskey Flat Encampment:

Cowboy and Mountain Man Encampments on Scodie Avenue across from the Rodeo Grounds. You’ll see history and gunfights. All there will be a Wells Fargo station and eatery, Chuck wagon cook’n and coffee, a horse trader and livery. There’ll be a horse shoe’n and horse doctor’n, he Whiskey Flats Saloon, a Justice of the Peace, a saddle maker and leather craft, a bath house, beautifier and hygienist, storytellers of the Old West, mining and sawmill demonstrations and a Civil War Confederate camp.

1 p.m. – Golden Gulch opens
Circle Park: Crafts, handmade items, jewelry, info booths, and art vendors. Whiskey Flat Headquarters & Info Booth on the corner of Kernville Road and Tobias Street selling Whiskey Flat shirts and memorabilia.

1 p.m. -Riverside Park and Frontage Road opens
Riverside Park: Food court, family entertainment and miscellaneous vendors.
Frontage Road: vendors, vendors, lots of vendors.

3 p.m. – Schoeppner Amusement Carnival opens
On Kern River Drive by Riverside Park, come and enjoy great adult and children’s rides and games.

4 p.m. McNally Arena – Whiskey Flat Days MC/ATV Rodeo
Dust off your boots and hats or in this case, your helmet and motorcycle boots as Whiskey Flat Days bring the MC/ATV Rodeo for the first time.

6 p.m. – 9 p.m. – Main Stage 
Street dance – Piute Road featuring Backflow

Saturday, Feb. 16, 2019
9 a.m. – Shops and food vendors open for business

10 a.m. -Whiskey Flat Days Parade
Grand Marshals: Mike and Erin Woodward

12 p.m. – Schoeppner Amusement Carnival opens
On Kern River Drive

12 p.m. – 2 p.m. – Music
Circle Park Gazebo featuring Kern River Band

1 p.m. – Wild West Daze Rodeo sponsored by Coors at McNally Rodeo Arena
Open team roping, bull riding, hide race, open barrell race, junior barrell race, calf scramble, sheep riding and more.

1 p.m. – Whiskey Flat Encampment opens

Sunday, Feb. 17, 2019
8 a.m. – Whiskey Flat Encampment opens

Sign ups at the Green Contest State on Piute Drive and info booth. Adult and child 1860s costume contest. Judging starts at 12:30 a.m.

1 p.m. Whiskerino contest
Sign ups. Judging at 1:30 p.m.

2 p.m. – Pet Parade contest
Sign ups. Judging at 2:30 p.m.

1 p.m. Wild West Daze Rodeo
