Weekend 5K run to honor 9/11 first responder

“Honor our Bravest” is the message of this year’s Tunnel to Towers 5K Run and Walk taking place Saturday morning at River Walk Park.

The 5K will honor the life and legacy of NYPD firefighter Stephen Siller.

He died in the 9/11 attacks as he was trying to rescue those trapped in the World Trade Center.

The cost to run at this Saturday’s 5K is $30 per person and 93 percent of the proceeds will go back to the Stephen Siller Foundation.

The non-profit helps build homes for severely wounded veterans and pays off mortgages for families of fallen first responders.

The run is set to begin at 7 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 8. You can still register for the event online.

Organizers say you can register in person before the start of the run.
