A video that some may find disturbing has surfaced. It appears to show a woman dragging a dog as she rode a bird scooter through the Westchester neighborhood.
The incident took place on the 1900 block of A St., where part of the incident was caught on camera.
The woman rode through the street before coming to a stop. She then picked up the dog, only to be confronted by good samaritans who took a picture that appears to show blood on the dog’s paws. KGET has blurred the woman’s face, as she has not officially been charged with a crime.
A representative with the Bakersfield Police Department confirmed “the dog from the video was located and officers confirmed it received medical treatment and is expected to fully recover. The investigation remains ongoing.”
“It’s evil. It’s really heartbreaking that someone would do that,” said Kayla Subia, who lives on the block where the incident occurred. Herself a dog owner, Subia said she was furious.
“I don’t think she deserves that dog,” Subia said of the woman who allegedly dragged the dog through the street. “If she’s doing that in public, then what is she doing behind closed doors? I really hope she gets caught because that poor dog. Who knows what that dog is going through?”
A representative with the Bakersfield Police Dept. confirmed city Animal Control and the BPD are taking the incident very seriously and are actively investigating.
The spokesman added police went to the woman’s residence, but were not able to make contact with her.
Bird released a message about the incident. A spokesman said:
“We find the video to be deeply disturbing and are appreciative of the community for bringing it to our attention. This type of rider behavior is wrong and prohibited by bird. As soon as the we were made aware of the video, we began our own investigation of the incident and have suspended the account for the individual involved in the incident.”
The video has been posted on KGET’s social media pages, and KGET.com.
