Kern Health Systems donated $100,000 to Kern Medical’s Valley Fever Institute.
Kern Medical received the donation at its board of governors meeting Wednesday.
During the ceremony, Ashley Villegas shared her struggle with Valley fever and how the center helped her through her diagnosis.
“I’m very thankful because thanks to them I’m alive this day, so that’s all I can be thankful for to be here today,” she said.
Villegas says she was pregnant when she was first diagnosed and Kern Medical provided the medicine and treatment she needed to save both her and her daughter.
The institute studies Valley fever and provides care to Valley fever patients and raises awareness about the disease.
