Update: The man who died in the accident on I-5 just south of Highway 166 yesterday morning has been identified. 

The driver was identified as Cesar Gaspar Salas Aranda, 49, a San Luis, Arizona resident.

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — CHP says one person suffered fatal injuries in a collision Monday morning on Interstate 5 near Highway 166.

The crash happened at about 7:15 a.m. when a car traveling northbound on I-5 in moderate rain veered through the center divider into southbound lanes, where it was hit by another vehicle, according to officers. 

The driver of the car was taken to a local hospital, where he later died. His name has not yet been released.

The driver of the other vehicle was uninjured.

A couple lanes of traffic were blocked off for the investigation.
