Updated: Man shot and killed at apartment complex in Arvin identified


Update: The Kern County Coroners Office has identified the man shot and killed last night at an Arvin apartment complex as Roland Van Johnson, 26. 

The Arvin Police Department received several calls regarding a shooting on the 200 block of Meyer Street around 10:52 p.m. One caller told dispatch someone had been shot and killed in front of the apartment complex. 

When officers arrived they found Johnson on the ground unresponsive. Johnson had been shot multiple times in the upper torso and pronounced dead at the scene.  

Several shell casings were found on the ground near the victim. Officers spoke with many people from the area but no one could provide any details on the shooting or suspects. 

Anyone who has information in this case is urged to contact the Arvin Police Department at 661-854-5583 and ask to speak with Sergeant Ruben Gonzalez, Officer Brianna Padilla or Lieutenant Olan Armstrong. 


Arvin Police are investigating a shooting at an apartment complex on Meyer Street that left one man dead. 

Arvin Police Chief Scot Kimble told 17 news the shooting happened just before 11 p.m. Tuesday at the Summerview Apartments. 

When officers arrived, they found a man in his 20’s who had been shot. He died at the scene. The man’s idenity has not been released.

Arvin Police haven’t released any suspect information. 

Police were still on scene Wednesday morning and the Kern County Crime Lab is assisting with the investigation.
