UPDATE: Inmate who walked away from re-entry program captured Monday

UPDATE (July 17): The California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation said an inmate who walked away from his re-entry program before his parole.

Ronald Brooks was re-captured Monday after he was spotted at the Valley Plaza Mall. He was arrested following a short foot pursuit CDCR officials said.

Brooks was then taken to North Kern State Prison.

Ronald Brooks, 31, walked away from the Male Community Re-entry Program Kern County facility on Sunday, California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation announced.

Officials were notified his GPS device had been tampered with around 1:21 p.m. They located the device across the street from MCRP, according to CDCR. Brooks was nowhere to be found.

Local law enforcement agencies were notified.

He is identified as 5 feet, 10 inches tall and weighs 195 pounds.

Brooks was serving a two-year sentence for burglary, grand theft and failure to appear. He was scheduled to be released this September, according to CDCR.

Anyone with any knowledge of Brooks’ whereabouts should immediately contact law enforcement or call 911.
