UPDATE: Driver accused of leaving injured wife following Shafter crash awaits court hearing

UPDATE (Aug 2.): A hearing is set for the driver that fled the scene of a hit-and-run and left his injured wife behind.

Michael Angel Fimbres, 29, is accused of driving driving past a stop sign and hitting another vehicle, all while driving without a license.

The crash happened Wednesday afternoon at the intersection of Tulare and Palm avenues in Shafter.

The other driver suffered major injuries and so did Fimbres’ wife. Police said Fimbres’ fled the scene and left her behind.

Fimbres is set to appear in court Friday and is being held on $41,500 bail.

Authorities are looking for a driver who fled the scene of a hit-and-run crash leaving their injured passenger behind.

The crash happened Wednesday at around 1 p.m. at the intersection Tulare and Palm avenues. CHP says a 2003 Mitsubishi failed to stop at a stop sign and collided with a 1999 Nissan.

Both vehicles veered into an orchard and hit several trees.

The driver of the Mitsubishi fled the scene and left their passenger who was severely injured.

The driver of the Nissan also sustained major injuries. Both were taken to Kern Medical for treatment.

It’s unknown if drugs or alcohol were factors in the crash.

Anyone with information on the driver who fled or the crash is asked to call the CHP Bakersfield office at 396-6600.
