California City police determined a device found on 20 Mule Team Parkway was a fake. It was not a bomb.

California police made the determination hours after being alerted to a device found on the side of 20 Mule Team Parkway by a passerby.

California City police said the item they found resembled bundled sticks of dynamite and a timer. The Kern County Sheriff’s Office bomb squad also helped in the investigation.

Police were called out to the scene at 4:30 p.m. after a passerby saw the device next to a travel trailer on the side of the road.

Police said the device was located about a mile from California City Prison prompting a closure of traffic on 20 Mule Team Parkway for several hours.

Officials said no arrests have been made, but continue to investigate.
