Fed up with recent raids by immigrations enforcement, the United Farm Workers Association held a rally in Downtown Bakersfield Monday afternoon.
Protesters gathered at the Liberty Bell.
The union protested last week’s raids in California, which led to the arrests of about two dozen people in Kern County.
Immigration and Customs Enforcement officials told us last week, many they arrested had felony convictions, but the vice president of the UFW, Armando Elenes, says people they spoke to had no priors.
“Unfortunately this is a situation where a lot of workers are being picked up. Their family members are now left behind to deal with the aftermath of what just happened, and a lot of times, we don’t know.”
ICE says they don’t target people randomly, but do make additional arrests during sweeps.
