Two murder suspects, on two unrelated cases, await the verdict, as a jury deliberates.
Mariano Fernandez Perez, 25
The fate of the man accused of killing a prominent grape grower in Delano, lies in the hands of a jury.
Mariano Fernandez Perez, 25, is on trial for the murder of Jakov Dulcich.
Dulcich was the founder of a number of local businesses, including Pretty Lady Vineyards, and Dulcich and Sons Inc.
Perez fired into Dulcich’s vehicle on a roadway near Delano, according to investigators.
Court documents say he’s given no possible motive into the killing, and denied having a reason to kill Dulcich.
His charges include first-degree murder.
In a separate, unrelated case, a Tehachapi corrections officer is also awaiting a verdict.
Rigoberto Sanchez is accused of shooting Edwin Lima, last year, at his estranged wife’s apartment.
All three worked at the Tehachapi prison.
Sanchez’s attorney argued Lima pointed his own gun at his client, and that Sanchez shot Lima in self-defense.
But his wife, Sandra, testified that Lima never had the chance to draw the gun.
Sanchez is charged with first-degree murder.
