Two arrested, one still wanted in killing of 19-year-old in East Bakersfield

Jan. 11 Update: A second and third person were arrested in the killing of a 19-year-old in East Bakersfield earlier this week and Bakersfield Police Department are still asking for help finding another muder suspect.

Police are looking for 18-year-old Jose Lopez.  He currently has active warrants out for his arrest, including murder, gang participation, and conspiracy.

On Thursday night around 11 p.m., 19-year-old Michael Castaneda was located in the 2200 block of Larcus Avenue and arrested for homicide, according to Bakersfield police.

A woman, 23-year-old Edith Vasquez, was also arrested for helping Castaneda hide from officials.

Castaneda and Lopez are suspected in the killing of another teen — 19-year-old Louie Arturo Hernandez — on Jan. 8 in the 800 block of Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard. Hernandez was shot and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police have already arrested a 21-year-old man in connection to Hernandez’s killing.

Lopez is described as standing 5 feet, 8 inches tall, weighing 160 pounds, with black hair and brown eyes. He has a tattoo on the left side of his neck.
