The Kern County Library is launching its Summer Reading Challenge Saturday with the Touch the Truck event outside Beale Memorial library, inviting children and adults to get an up close and personal look with some of the vehicles that help keep our community running.

The free event runs from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the library at 701 Truxtun Ave.

The Kern County Bookmobile, a dump truck, fire truck, FedEx Mail truck, school bus, and more will on display, with food vendors El Churro Loco, Kona Ice, Milan’s Market, and Curbside Kitchen serving up dishes to attendees, according to library representatives.

The library’s Summer Reading Challenge runs through July 31.

Kids are encouraged to log at least 10 books in order to receive prizes from the library, including a free book.

For more information and to download official Kern County Library reading logs, visit the library’s website.
