TODAY: Heroes & Helmets benefiting Make-a-Wish BBQ, helmet drives

You can grant wishes for children in our community who are battling critical illnesses through “Heroes and Helmets for Hope.”

It’s the 9th annual fundraiser benefiting the Make-A-Wish Foundation. Our community has raised $525,000 since the fundraiser started in Kern County in 2010.

Organizers say Make-A-Wish does not receive funding from government programs, so they rely solely on fundraising like this, and community donations to pay for wishes.

You can help out in a number of ways.

  1. You can purchase lunch for $7 at our barbecue fundraiser on Friday. Lunch will be served outside of the KGET studios in Downtown Bakersfield at 22nd and L streets, from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
  2. Both city and county firefighters will also be accepting cash donations outside our KGET station and at the intersections of both Olive and Knudsen drives, and Mohawk Street and Rosedale Highway from 7 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
