Local law enforcement officials responded to at least three pedestrian-involved crashes, the most notable a multi-vehicle crash on Highway 99 that caused severe traffic.
The crash happened just after 6 a.m. when a pedestrian reportedly darted into traffic lanes and was struck by a vehicle, according to Officer Robert Rodriguez with California Highway Patrol. This incident caused several other vehicles to crash.
There were 10 total injuries, according to CHP. The pedestrian was airlifted to the hospital with major injuries, all others involved suffered minor injuries.
Another crash was reported on McKee Road near Akers Road just after 7:15 a.m. Sgt. Brian Holcombe with Bakersfield Police Department says the crash involved an adult female who suffered moderate to major injuries.
She was transported to the hospital and is listed in critical condition.
Frontier High School
Another pedestrian-involved crash happened at 6401 Allen Road near Frontier High School and involved two 16-year-olds. Only minor injuries were reported in this incident, according to BPD.
Alcohol or drugs do not appear to be factors in the crashes on McKee and Frontier High School. Check back for updates.
