Thousands of wreaths laid for local heroes

News

Nearly 5,000 wreaths were laid out this past weekend to honor our local heroes.

This is the ninth straight year Wreaths Across America helped some families pause at Bakersfield National Cemetery to remember veterans who have passed on.

“It means a tremendous amount to me and all my brother and sister veterans to be able to come out and thank those who served before us or after us that in fact gave their lives in battle. That was something that I never had to do,” Bakersfield National Cemetery Support Committee president Tom Pasek said.

The Bakersfield Breakfast Rotary Club, Bakersfield National Cemetery Support Committee and volunteers are coordinating the event to honor veterans of each branch of the military, the Merchant Marine as well as prisoners of war and those still missing in action.
