One person is dead and another is injured after a non-contact hit-and-run in Tehachapi over the weekend.

Joseph Anthony Herbert Bistany, 28, of Tehachapi, was driving a 1999 Toyota Corolla northbound on Tehachapi Willow Springs Road on Sunday around 6:40 p.m., California Highway Patrol reported. A black 4-door Hyundai, driving southbound, traveled over double yellow lines and in the direct path of Bistany, according to CHP.

Bistany tried to avoid a crash by driving onto the dirt shoulder, east of the roadway, officers say. Bistany lost control of the car and instead ended up in the southbound lane, in the direct path of a Chevrolet Silverado. The Silverado collided with the front of Bistany’s car.

Bistany died on scene, according to CHP.

The driver of the Silverado, Christopher Till, 48, of Rosamond, sustained moderate injuries and was taken to the hospital.

The driver of the black Hyundai is unknown, according to CHP.  Anyone with information regarding the crash is asked to call CHP Mojave Area Office at (661) 823-5500.
