A teenager was hit by a car at an intersection near a Stonecreek Junior High School in South Bakersfield.
The incident happened around 8 a.m. Wednesday in the 8300 block of Akers Road, according to Bakersfield Police Department. A 13-year old girl ran across Akers Road outside of a cross walk and was hit, police said.
She was taken to the hospital with moderate injuries, according to police. The driver stayed on scene.
Alcohol, drugs and speed to not appear to have been factors, police said.
This incident serves as a reminder to drive cautiously near school zones and bus stops now that school is back in session. Parents should also take the time to talk to their kids about keeping safe while walking to and from school.
