It’s official: Taft Police Chief Ed Whiting is leaving the department, and his replacement has been named.

Whiting has been on the job for more than 30 years. Earlier this year it was announced he would be retiring in 2018.

Whiting told 17 News his last day on the job is March 1.

Tuesday morning, the department said Damon McMinn will become the new chief.

McMinn will leave his position as lieutenant with the Kern County Sheriff’s Office to take the helm at the Taft Police Department.
