A fire caused a major street to shutdown Wednesday morning and arson investigators are trying to figure out why.
The fire broke out at a boarded up building on California Avenue and Pershing Street, just west of Union Avenue.
Eastbound California was closed while crews fought the fire.
Heavy smoke and flames could be seen coming from the building.
The Bakersfield Fire Department is treating it as a suspicious fire.
“It is suspicious due to the nature of it being boarded up and people leaving as we were arriving, but it will be investigated by the arson department,” said Batallion Chief Casey Snow.
Fire crews said no one was hurt and no arrests have been made.
