A Super Taco restaurant was shut down by health officials after they found living and dead cockroaches in food preparation areas, according to an inspection report.

The restaurant, located at 520 E. Truxtun Ave., was closed Thursday after it failed a health inspection with a score of 51 percent.

In addition to roaches, inspectors found issues related to food storage, with raw meat improperly placed above produce and uncovered food containers in the refrigerator, the report says.

Inspectors also noticed debris around sinks and inadequate lighting in the food preparation area, according to the report.

The full report is available on Kern County Public Health Services’s Safe Diner website

The other Super Taco location, at 1300 E. Truxtun Ave., remains open with an A rating and an inspection score of 96 percent.
