As a vote to give city governments more authority on rent control, a new study shows Bakersfield rent prices are rising.

Apartment List says rent has been flat this past month, but rent prices have risen more 1 percent year-over-year.

The median rent for a two-bedroom apartment is $930 — that’s lower than the national average.

Proposition 10 is on the November ballot and if it passes, it would repeal the Costa-Hawkins Act which limits how local governments can control rent.

Advocates say it would make homes more affordable, but critics say it would lead to more fees, higher prices and decreased property values.
