It has been three months since our beloved former mayor Harvey Hall passed away from Creutzfeld-Jakob Disease.
In honor of Hall and others affected by CJD, there’s a walk planned to bring awareness to the rare neurodegenerative disease that has no treatment or cure.
Strides for CJD, a 5k walk/run is happening Oct. 7 at Lake Ming. Participants can walk in memory of Mayor Hall or create their own team to honor a loved one impacted by CJD. Registration includes a BBQ lunch, event t-shirt, wrist band, and commemorative event medal. Tickets are $20 for kids and $30 for adults.
CJD is caused by “prions,” proteins that can misfold in the brain, with devastating effects, including rapid mental and physical deterioration. CJD is the most common of the “prion diseases.” Prion diseases are invariably fatal.
