A father and his 9-year-old son are back with family after getting lost and then rescued by officials while on a hike, according to a news release from Kern County Sheriff’s Office.
On Thursday, the Kern Valley Search and Rescue team was dispatched to rescue the pair who became stuck in deep snow near Piute Mountain, south of Lake Isabella, according to Kern County Sheriff’s Office.
It took the crew nearly six hours to reach the pair, according to officials.
Temperatures dropped to the teens overnight where the two were saved. Luckily, they did not require medical attention after being rescued, KCSO said.
If you plan on hiking, tell friends and family where you plan on going, carry a cell phone and plenty of water, officials warned. If there are winter conditions, ensure that your vehicle is equipped for the weather.
