A corrections officer at Corcoran State Prison is recovering after being attacked by an inmate Saturday. The inmate now faces attempted homicide charges from that attack.
The California Department of Corrections said the officer met with inmate, Jarvis Bell, 33, about his alleged role in a fight.
That’s when Bell attacked the officer with a makeshift weapon stabbing the officer in the face. Bell also used the officer’s pepper spray against him, corrections officials said.
Two other officers jumped in and were able to stop the attack. They were both treated and released from a hospital for minor injuries.
The officer who was stabbed needed stitches to close a wound near the eye and is recovering at home.
Bell had been serving an 18 year, eight month sentence in Corcoran State Prison.
