Southwest Bakersfield bar shooting leaves 2 dead, 1 in custody


Two people are dead and another is in custody, after a shooting overnight in Southwest Bakersfield.

On Jan. 6 at 12:48 a.m., Bakersfield Police Department received a call about a possible shooting at the Westfair Lounge.

When officers arrived to the scene, they found a 40-year-old man with gunshot wounds in front of the lounge. He was taken to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead, according to BPD.

Another man, in his 50s, was located in the driver seat of a car parked near the lounge.  That man was pronounced dead on scene, police said. 

During the investigation, officers were given a suspect vehicle description, according to police. One officer encountered a vehicle matching the description and attempted to pull them over. The driver of the vehicle refused to stop and led police on a pursuit. The suspect eventually pulled over and was taken into custody. 

Officials have not released the identities of the victims or suspect. 

Westfair Lounge is located at 2536 Wible Road.
