Hundreds came out Wednesday to grab a delicious lunch and support wounded veterans.
Cars stretched down 22nd Street outside our KGET studios for this year’s Wounded Heroes Fund Barbecue.
People packed under tents enjoying the tri-tip sandwiches for lunch Wednesday. So much so that sandwiches sold out. Over 2,200 sandwiches were sold for a total of about $18,000 raised for the Wounded Heroes Fund.
Wounded Heroes Fund Executive Director Wendi Porter says post-9/11 veterans may face difficulties returning from service. She says the programs try to help them as they transition to civilian life.
“With Wounded Heroes Fund getting them involved and going to our events, it helps them create a new brotherhood of trust, a new source of comfort for them,” Porter said.
KGET sends a big “Thank You” to all who came out and showed their support.
