Six Lincoln Junior High School students were struck by a car while walking to school this morning in Taft.

The crash happened around 7:35 a.m. in the crosswalk at 5th and Kern Streets.

Five were taken to the hospital by ambulance and their injuries range from mild to moderate, according to Julie Graves, Superintendent of Taft City School District.

The driver, in his 60s, says his windows were frosted over and the sun was in his eyes, according to Taft Police Department. He was driving under the speed limit at the time of the crash, according to police. He was cited.

This should serve as a reminder for drivers to take their time to warm their car up and use caution around pedestrians, according to Taft police.
