Shooting outside Gateway Inn leaves 1 dead; suspects at large

A man is dead after a shooting in East Bakersfield overnight and the shooters are at large, police say.

The shooting happened around 1:30 a.m. near the intersection of E. 10th Street and Union Avenue in East Bakersfield.  A man in his 30s died as a result of being shot, according to police.

According to our 17 News Homicide Tracker, the 93307 zip code where the shooting happened, is one of the deadliest in Kern County.

Multiple gunshots were fired, some bullets striking nearby buildings, police say. 

Officials are searching for two men suspected of the shooting.

No word on if it was gang-related.

“During the course of the investigation, the only suspect information we were able to gather so far is two adult males and a four-door sedan type of vehicle that may be involved, although we have not been able to confirm that.” Sgt. Don Cegielski with Bakersfield Police said.
