Sheriff’s Activities League plant flags for Presidents Day

News

The Lamont chapter of the Kern County Sheriff’s Activities League went around town Monday morning planting flags for Presidents Day.

The group does this nine times a year on various holidays to encourage patriotism in the community.

“Patriotism for us just kind of embeds honor in the kids, teaches them we’re proud to be American, proud of our country we take pride in our community,” Sheriff’s Activities League coordinator Cassie Fernandez said.

Opportunities often include yard clean-up, trash collection and graffiti removal.

The children will repeat the three-mile trek Monday evening to remove the flags until the next celebration.
