A woman charged in the killing of her son nearly 8 years ago had her sentencing continued in court Tuesday morning.

The sentencing for Alexis Dixon was delayed because of a family emergency for one of the attorneys.

Dixon, 35, is set to be sentenced to 12 years in prison after she entered a plea deal last month that reduced her sentence from second-degree murder to voluntary manslaughter and child cruelty in the death of her son, Markie.

Alexis Dixon said her son Markie fell off his chair while she napped in back in April of 2010.

But according to a report, a children’s hospital doctor said dying from a fall was an unlikely scenario.

Documents also state Alexis Dixon and the boy’s father had a list of child protective service violations and documented meth abuse.

Four years after Markie’s death, Dixon was charged with first-degree murder.

Last month, the prosecution offered Dixon a plea deal of voluntary manslaughter and child cruelty.

She has already served roughly four years.
