Season of Peace event this weekend features music, turkey giveaway

News

A local community activist is once again calling for a Season of Peace and giving to those in need.

Two years ago, radio personality Danny Morrison started the movement in Southeast Bakersfield. The annual event now features music, dancing, and a turkey giveaway for local families.

“I grew up in that neighborhood and I know how tough it is during these times,” said Morrison. “You know, there’s a lot of poor families out there and they’re trying their best just to find out what they’re going to do this holiday season, not only when it comes to food for thanksgiving, but food for Christmas, gifts for Christmas.”

This year’s giveaway and party is Sunday, Nov. 18 from noon until 2 p.m., at the corner of Cheatham and Windsor.

Right now, they have about 50 turkeys, but organizers hope to have at least 200 by this Sunday.

If you would like to help, turkeys and monetary donations can be dropped off at 103.9 The Beat, located at 4300 Stine road, suite 209.
