Search warrant details suspect in 5-year-old’s homicide

Bakersfield Police possibly have the killer of 5-year-old Kason Guyton right where they want him, behind bars, at least for now. A search warrant obtained by 17 News details the possible connection between alleged members of the West Side Crips criminal street gang and the murder of Kason Guyton. 17’s Olivia LaVoice got ahold of this warrant first today, as she continues to cover this case extensively for us.

The FBI named last week’s massive gang sweep “operation blind mice”.An FBI affidavit suggests the name comes from an informant telling officers “the three mice” killed 5 year old Kason Guyton. In a search warrant we found today, officers zeroed in on a West Side Crip who calls himself “lil mice”.

27 year old Johnathan Knight was one of many gang members picked up last Tuesday in a massive multi agency gang raid targeting the West Side Crips. He was one of many alleged gang members arraigned Thursday on various gang charges…but Knight also may be the focus of the entire investigation into the gang.

A warrant we found today reads “Knight is one of the primary suspects in the murder of KasonGuyton, a five year old child killed during a suspected gang-related shooting on 2/23/17.”

The warrant also says Johnathan Knight goes by the nickname “lil mice”, and the man that stood next to him during their arraignment, 25 year old Jeremy King, goes by the nickname “baby mice”. Again, these nicknames may be significant due to the FBI’s information that quote “the three mice” did the shooting. However, Johnathan Knight is the only person named as a suspect in the homicide in the BPD warrant.

Jeremy King’s brother, Jarvis Naff was convicted of a gang related shooting at Chuck E Cheese in 2016. In that shooting, three people were wounded.

Both Jeremy King and Johnathan Knight have served time in prison before for participating in a street gang. They’re both currently in custody on unrelated charges with bail set at around $200,000. Neither defendant has been charged with Kason Guyton’s murder.

BPD says this is an ongoing investigation, if you have any information you urged to call detective Keegan Gavin at 326-3557, or you can remain anonymous by calling secret witness at 322-4040
