Search underway for Northwest Bakersfield shooter

A massive search for a shooter is underway in Northwest Bakersfield, just west of Centennial High School.

Police responded at around 8:30 p.m. Tuesday to a home on Abbott Drive near Calloway Drive and Hageman Road. Police said the man, identified as Carlos Garcia Jr., and the woman got into an argument when he shot her. Police said Garcia got away on foot.

The woman was taken to Kern Medical where she was pronounced dead, according to BPD.

Police said the woman and the shooter knew each other, but didn’t elaborate on their relationship to one another.

Garcia has an active warrant for murder and is described as:

  • Male
  • 5’7”
  • 150 lbs
  • Brown hair, brown eyes

Neighbors told 17 News there have been previous issues at the home where the shooting occurred.

“I’ve come around the corner and have overheard screaming and yelling outside the front door, chasing each other out of the house, dogs running wild,” Tammy Gutierrez, a neighbor, said. 

“A lot of different things have been occurring. It just didn’t seem stable.”
