Search crews find missing hiker in Inyokern mountains

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — Rescue crews have found a 24-year-old hiker who got lost in the Inyokern mountains on Sunday, according to the Kern County Sheriff’s Office.

KCSO said it got a call about a person missing in the area of Chimney Peak Wilderness, near Chimney Peak Campground at around 4 p.m. on Sunday.

Searchers continued looking for the hiker from East Palo Alto overnight and eventually found him Monday morning  in a remote area of Sand Canyon.

The hiker was found by searchers in a Kern County Fire Department helicopter at around 11 a.m..

The man was arilfted to safety and reunited with his hiking party.

Crews from Kern Valley, China Lake, Tehachapi and South Kern search and rescues all helped in the rescue.
