Update: Monday, July 9

Kern County search and rescue crews are looking for a Los Angeles man who went missing in Lake Isabella Saturday afternoon.

Search and Rescue crews were called out to the French Gulch area of the lake around 3:40 p.m. for reports of multiple people in the water, officials said.

Nicholas Smith, 25, was boating with family and friends when he jumped into the water. Due to winds, Smith’s boat began drifting away. He  became too tired trying to get back to the boat, witnesses told Kern County Sheriff’s Office. Another man jumped in the water to help him, but was unable to hold onto Smith and he went under water.

The search for Smith continued Sunday.
