The Californian is alerting people who placed classified ads of a potential credit card scam.
The Californian’s senior editor, Robert Price, said classified advertisers contacted the newspaper about a suspicious call from a man claiming to be from The Californian.
The man on the call told the advertisers, a credit card used to place the ad was declined and a new credit card number was needed or their ad would be canceled.
Price said classified ads are usually pre-paid and The Californian does not make those calls asking for that information.
The paper urges anyone who may have received a call from someone claiming to be from The Californian to call the Bakersfield Police Department at 327-7111.
