UPDATE: It was found the person soliciting funds was working for a legitimate third-party business associated with the KCFD’s union, according to a press release issued by the Kern County Sheriff’s Office.
The Kern County Sheriff’s Office is alerting the public to a scam claiming to raise money for the Kern County Fire Department.
The sheriff’s office said Wednesday, scammers are calling Kern County residents claiming to be associated with KCFD and asking for money. The sheirff’s office said at least one business has been called by a scammer.
County Fire is not raising money and the department doesn’t solicit for money over the phone, officials said.
If you have been a victim of the scam, you are asked to call Det. Smith or Det. Lackey at the sheriff’s office at 391-7500.
