Runners turn out for ‘A Riverbed Runs Through It’ half marathon

News

Hundreds of runners laced up their sneakers Saturday for the annual “A Riverbed Runs Through It” half marathon and 5K.

The race was put on by the Bakersfield Track Club started at the Park at River Walk.

Runners then headed out to run on the equestrian trail and as the name suggests, the riverbed does run through part of the course.

And if you’ve been to Bakersfield Track Club races, you’ve no doubt heard the voice of Pete Wimberly.

Winderly has been the man behind the mic announcing runners as they make their way across the finish lines for about 38 years.

You may also recognize his voice from other events where he’s a DJ.

Last month, Winderly and his wife moved back to Washington state, but he’s made the trip back to Bakersfield a few times to get back on the mic.

Winderly says his favorite part about the job is getting to be a part of someone’s happiest day.
