One of the brightest stars at North High School was honored during a surprise ceremony Tuesday night.
Curt DeRossett will retire at the end of the school year after 34 years in the classroom. He was also the most successful girls basketball coach in Kern County history before he quit coaching 12 years ago.
He was given a special award during the girls varsity basketball game Tuesday night.
“it’s a treat to me, to be in the teaching profession and to be able to make an impact. Sometimes it’s positive, sometimes it’s negative. Sometimes you’re liked, and sometimes you’re loved and sometimes you’re hated, but that all goes with the territory … Absolutely it’s worth it,” DeRossett said.
He says although he is retiring, he still plans to help out wherever he can.
