Hanford Republican Congressman David Valadao visited the U.S.-Mexico border in San Ysidro, San Diego and Otay Mesa Tuesday focusing on conditions at U.S. detention and processing centers.

In a statement from Valadao’s office, Valadao says the situation at the southern border faces several challenges and that there are few things more important than ensuring the safety of children, regardless of which country they come from.

Valadao also received an update on the status of the border wall prototype as the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals considers a lawsuit over speeding up construction.

He added:

“Federal immigration policy has serious consequences for thousands of families especially those here in the Central Valley. It’s critical for members of Congress to have real, firsthand knowledge of the conditions at our border and the situations our Border Patrol agents face each and every day.”
