Remembering Jeri: Local mom who dedicated life to medically-ill kids, passes away

We brought you the story of Elijah Adames and his brave 911 call earlier this month, but we now have a sad update to that story.

Elijah’s mother Jeri Carreras passed away over the weekend.

Jeri was a foster mom to medically-fragile children since 1978, taking in dozens of children through the decades.

In 2008, doctors gave Elijah just weeks to live. Jeri was supposed to be Elijah’s foster mom until he passed away, but Elijah managed to beat the odds, now 10 years old.

Just last week our news team took cards to Elijah for his brave call, when Jeri shared that she had just been diagnosed with bone cancer.

She passed this weekend.

Members of our news team are now gathering gifts for Elijah during this difficult time. They can be dropped off in our lobby at 2120 L Street in Downtown Bakersfield during regular business hours.
