Money was raised, Saturday, for homeless veterans in the community.
The California Veterans Assistance Foundation is currently working on a permanent housing village. Plans for Bakersfield Veterans Village include 12 units, 11 homes and a common area with laundry facilities.
CVAF is working to raise $300,000 to build the community on Covey Avenue in Oildale.
“They served, they came back and we need to, they sacrificed time and saw things that nobody should see. So I think we need to take care of them and make sure that they’re housed and in a nice place,” said Tim Terrio, President of Health through Homeless.
Organizers say the plan is to begin building in the Spring.
17’s Jim Scott emceed Saturday’s event.
