A truck designed for combat wounded veterans is rolling into town today.

The Bakersfield Vet Center is hosting the 2018 Purple Heart Legacy Truck Run, a coast-to-coast tour driven by combat-wounded veterans. The event is jointly sponsored by the Military Order of the Purple Heart and Wounded Warriors Family Support

The Ford F-150 truck is adapted to suit combat-wounded veterans who are paralyzed or have lost arms or legs. The message it’s trying to drive home is that given the right vehicle, a combat-wounded veteran will have the freedom to live a productive and quality life.

The truck is set to arrive at the Bakersfield Vet Center at 9 a.m. with a motorcycle escort. A welcoming ceremony is set for 9:30. The center is located at 1110 Golden State Ave.

Earlier this week, 17’s Alex Fisher was joined by Ben Patten from Bakersfield Armed Forces Support Foundation and David Jackson from Military Order of the Purple Heart to talk about The Purple Heart Run.
