A procession is planned to honor a correctional officer who died five months after being assaulted by inmates.
A week ago, Kern Valley State Prison Officer Armando Gallegos passed away from injuries received after he was attacked by inmates in April.
The California Correctional Peace Officers Association is calling it murder, but charges have not been filed and we are still awaiting an autopsy to determine cause of death.
Next Monday, a multi-agency procession will lead his body from the coroner’s office to a chapel in Visalia. The procession is set to begin at 1 p.m.
Gallegos was 56 years old.
