During Tuesday’s ‘State of the State’ address, Governor Gavin Newsom announced a scaled-back effort for the California High Speed Rail Project.
The City of Tehachapi was to be impacted by the rail line to connect Northern and Southern California.
The rail project was set to run through the Capital Hills area, across Highway 58 and through Steuber and Tehachapi Willow Springs Roads.
But, the Governor has a new focus – to pursue the high speed rail service from Bakersfield to Merced, eliminating the portion through Tehachapi for the forseeable future.
Tehachapi City Officials applauded the Governor’s modified decision.
Officials say many residents objected the project going through their city, as well as the cost of the project, the delays and the impact the rail line would have on their community.
