Police say man assaulted an officer during call, video shows officers subduing man with baton

Bakersfield police are responding to a video making the rounds on social media that shows officers chasing someone, catching them, then hitting them with a baton.

17 News viewer William Catalan sent in the video he says he shot Tuesday morning, just before 9 a.m. in the area of 34th Street and Union Avenue.

Police say the incident started as a check the welfare of an intoxicated person who was running in and out of traffic.

Police say the man identified as Robert Jimenez assaulted an officer and tried to run away. As the video shows, officers caught him.

17 News removed the audio from the video because it contained objectionable language.

Investigators ask anyone with information on the case to call them at 327-7111.
